Change your password or PIN – Windows

This is how to change the sign-in password or the Windows Hello PIN on a Windows device.

Change your password

1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del.

2. Choose Change a password.

3. Enter your old password and your new password twice.

4. Press Enter to confirm.

Change your PIN

1. Open Start › Settings › Accounts › Sign-in options.

2. Choose PIN (Windows Hello) › Change PIN.

3. Enter your old PIN and your new PIN twice, then confirm.

Tip: On company devices, make sure you are connected to the company network (on site or via VPN) when changing your password, so the new password applies everywhere right away.

Note: If the new password is rejected, it is too short, too simple or was used before. Support resets forgotten passwords.
