Set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) – Google Workspace

At Google, multi-factor authentication is called “2-Step Verification”. With it, every Google sign-in is also confirmed on your smartphone. You need a computer and a smartphone.

Turn it on

  1. On your computer, open Google Account – Security and sign in with your company account.

  2. Choose 2-Step Verification and click Get started or Turn on 2-Step Verification.

  3. Follow the instructions and set up a first method (see below).

Method: Google Authenticator (recommended)

  1. On your smartphone, install the Google Authenticator app: App Store, Google Play

  2. On your computer, under 2-Step Verification, choose Authenticator app › Set up authenticator. A QR code appears.

  3. In the app, tap + › Scan a QR code and scan the code.

  4. Enter the 6-digit code from the app on your computer and confirm.

Save backup codes

  1. Under 2-Step Verification › Backup codes, get your codes.

  2. Keep the codes in a safe place, e.g. in Keeper, but not together with your password. Each code works only once.

Note: When changing smartphones, move your accounts in Google Authenticator via Transfer accounts. If the old device is gone, sign in with a backup code and set up the app again.

Important: Never share verification codes or backup codes, not even with support.
