Maintenance windows and restarts – what users should know

it-tects keeps computers and servers secure with regular updates. So that nobody is disturbed, this usually happens outside normal working hours. A few simple habits make sure nothing gets lost.

On your own computer

  • Don't postpone restart prompts forever. Many updates only take effect after a restart.

  • Restart at least once a week instead of just closing the laptop lid.

  • Save open documents before restarting.

Server updates

  • Servers are updated and restarted outside working hours.

  • Anything still open and unsaved, e.g. documents on the network drive or on the terminal server, may be lost.

  • So save all documents, close programs and sign out of terminal servers at the end of the day and especially before the weekend.

Announced maintenance

  • If maintenance has to take place during working hours, it-tects announces it by email in advance.

  • During maintenance, e.g. network drives, terminal servers or industry software aren't available.

  • Save all files, close programs and sign out of terminal servers beforehand.

Note: If you notice something after an update, restart the computer first. If the problem persists, contact support and mention that it occurred after an update.
